Right: The Scottish Aviation Bulldog began to replace the de Havilland Chipmunk as the RAF’s ab initio trainer for pilots in 1973. It is a sturdy piston-engined aircraft with two seats, used for teaching the full rang of aerobatics, instrument flying and cross- country navigation.The trainer remains in RAF service.
The photograph shows the Bulldog T.I. serial XX515 of Central Flying School at Scampton in Lincolnshire.

Left: The Westland Wessex began service with the RAF in January 1964 as a troop carrier and for casevac operations, but from May 1976 also began search and rescue operations overland and in coastal waters. It was also employed in in Northern Ireland on anti-terrorist work. This photograph shows Wessex H.C.2 serial XS675 of 22 Squadron at Finningley in Yorkshire in September 1986.
